Youth empowerment and participation
Youth empowerment and participation is an important issue in Kenya, as a large portion of the population is under the age of 30. However, young people in the country face a number of challenges in terms of their empowerment and participation in society. One of the major challenges is high unemployment among young people, with youth unemployment rates in Kenya being some of the highest in the world. Many young people also lack access to quality education and training, which makes it difficult for them to find jobs and build successful careers.
Another challenge is political participation among young people, as they are often underrepresented in political and decision-making positions in the country. Despite being a key demographic in the country, young people are often not given a meaningful role in the development of policies and programs that affect them. Poverty and inequalities also affect youth empowerment, with a high proportion of young people living in poverty, particularly in rural areas.
To address these challenges, the government of Kenya has implemented some initiatives, such as the Youth Enterprise Development Fund and the National Youth Service, which aim to provide young people with access to funding, training, and employment opportunities, as well as to promote national cohesion among the youth. Additionally, the National Youth Policy and the Constitution of Kenya 2010 recognize the rights of young people and provide for their participation in governance and the development process.
However, civil society organizations also play a critical role in youth empowerment and participation, working with young people to build their skills, provide them with opportunities, and advocate for their rights. Some examples of such organizations include the Kenya National Youth Council, Youth Agenda, and the Youth Congress, among others.

Its important to note that while these efforts have been made to empower and engage young people, more work needs to be done to ensure that young people's voices and perspectives are heard and included in decision-making at all levels of society, and to increase their access to education, employment, and other opportunities that can help them reach their full potential.
